Catch of the day Catch of the Day announced today the sale of their 1 millionth product, Not too bad considering the site has only been in operation since October 2006.

Gabby Leibovich , Director of Catch of the Day mused that they sold about 100,000 items in the first year of trading and  there had been a exponential  explosion in sales since then

"One catch every day", has been a big hit for Australian online consumers and  certainly has put the site up above the radar. According to Alexa, the web tracking site, Catch of the Day is more popular than the Dick Smith and Officeworks websites.

Alexa Catch of the day comparison

In the Australian internet retailing scene, Dick Smith Electronics and Officeworks have respectable ecommerce websites with respectable levels of traffic, and are seen as successful early adopters of the online channel as part of their multi channel retailing strategies. For Catch of the Day comparatively to be more popular is interesting, and also indicative of the fact that everyone loves a bargain, take for example Catch of the Day's current deal   $229.00 for an Asus Eee PC, it's little wonder the site has been so succesful.

Innovative marketing ideas too, such as the recent 24 hour sale whereby hundreds of items were given away at $0 cost, with a very reasonable shipping charge of $4.95 for each item, are the key to the site's ongoing success.

Leibovich has intimated that there are many more  exciting things in the pipeline for the site and its members.
