Scoopon Launches iphone Appscoopon app

Scoopon.com.au, one of the early pioneers of group buying in Australia, started by the team that brought you Catchoftheday.com.au, has today launched its free iphone application to further support its dynamic website.

Scoopon, the emerging star winner at the recent Online Retailer Industry Association awards is believed to be the first group buying site in Australia (There are about 13 other group buying sites at the moment) to launch an iphone application.

The app is very appealing to the eye, intuitive and most importantly simple to use! The opening

screen defaults to the users location, in this instance Melbourne. The deal of the day as well as time left before the deal expires is clearly visible.  A clear description and most importantly a BUY button to purchase the deal is present for the user to take advantage of.

In testing the Scoopon iphone application we found it to be so simple to use. It  incorporates all the information that is found on the Scoopon main site, even a log in to allow the user to view all their previously purchased "Scoopons".

For those unfamiliar with the group buying concept, the idea is to offer a very lucrative deal to vistiors to the site, usually in excess of 50% off the standard or original price. The deal usually has to be purchased by a minimum number of buyers before the deal is "tipped" as such (this means that everyone who has bought the deal will get the opportunity to receive their deal because the minimum has been met). So for example a restaurant may offer 70% off its regular price for a meal, and this deal can only be purchased once lets say 20 people at least buy the deal. This encourages buyers to share the deal with their friends on Twitter, Facebook or by email, encouraging other people to buy the deal so it can "tip".

Conceptually this is a smart way to leverage the viral nature of the internet to boost sales.
